About the School
Appleton Thorn School of Dance was established in 1996 by the Principal, Karen Speers (B.Ed, AISTD). Karen is a fully qualified and registered teacher with the I.S.T.D (The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) and the C.D.E.T (The Council for Dance Education and Training). She is assisted by a number of qualified and experienced teachers who each bring their own unique teaching style and expertise to their classes. All the teachers are qualified with the I.S.T.D. and are also CRB checked.
Karen has a wealth of experience of teaching children and is in fact a full-time secondary school teacher at a local high school. She is an Assistant Examiner for O.C.R. A Level Performance Studies and currently teaches GCSE Dance, A Level Performance Studies and BTEC Performing Arts. She has also taught A Level dance.
Since the school was established there has been a 100% pass rate in all examinations. The children give displays at local fetes and school fairs in the summer months and work towards a school show, approximately every 12-18 months.
